The development of cancer is generally regarded as a matter of fate. However, it is now known that more than 70% of cancers are caused by our civilized lifestyle.
The main factors here are poor diet, nicotine consumption, obesity and lack of exercise.
-
According to Béliveau and Gingras (2008), industrially produced food is believed to be the cause of around 30% of all cancer cases. This type of food is often hypercaloric, rich in unhealthy fats and short-chain carbohydrates, low in fiber and deficient in essential nutrients.
-
At the same extent, nicotine consumption can cause cancer.
-
Other cancer risks that are within everyone's control, regardless of fate, are obesity and lack of exercise as well as alcohol and drug consumption. These are said to be able to induce malignancies in the order of between 2% and 5%.
The probability of suffering a tumor disease also includes factors that cannot or cannot be directly influenced. The risk of a genetic predisposition to tumors is approx. 15%, the risk of tumors due to occupation or infection is approx. 5%, and the risk due to environmental pollution and exposure to UV radiation is approx. 2%.
These staggering statistics should encourage us to eat a natural and healthy diet, to exercise actively and to avoid nicotine and alcohol as far as possible.
