Travel impressions

In 1978 and 1980, Rainer, his siblings Thomas and Claudia, and our friends visited the Adriatic island of Rab, which still belonged to Yugoslavia at that time.

In 2002, we spent two weeks in Finland with our nephew, Christian. We began our trip in the Finnish capital, Helsinki.

Located in the karst region between Zagreb and the Adriatic coast, Plitvice Lakes National Park offers visitors dense forests, spectacular waterfalls and turquoise lakes.

We have visited Leipzig several times, usually travelling by train to its spacious main station, which has promenades. Leipzig is a city of trade fairs, music, books and universities.

In February 2025 we spent a wonderful week in Andalusia, four days in Seville and three in Cordoba.

We visited Budapest for five days in June 2024. The districts of Buda and Pest, which are very different from each other, are separated by the Danube. These districts offer a variety of architectural and cultural highlights.

In August 2017, we travelled to the Egerland with a Studiosus group. In this trip, we travelled to Mariánské Lázně, Karlovy Vary, Cheb, Plzeň, Teplá Monastery and the castle town of Loket.

In May 2022, we enjoyed 10 extensive days in Lisbon. The Portuguese capital on the Tejo river has its own charm that you simply can't escape.

In October 2016, we enjoyed travelling with Marga's family on a two-week holiday to Buenos Aires and north-east Argentina, including the Iguazu Falls.

We discovered Bologna and several cities in Emilia Romagna on a two-week round trip in 2023. Cultural highlights, great landscapes and excellent Italian cuisine were on the programme.

On our neighbour's front step and in the middle of Bavaria lies the "Altmuehltal" Nature Park. The River Altmühl runs from its source near Rothenburg ob der Tauber to Kelheim, where it joins the Danube.

We are quite familiar with the Lower Franconian region, as Rainer lived in Würzburg for a long time, and we like to take short holidays in this charming area.

Berlin is our most frequent travel destination, either privately - such as for my 60th birthday - or as part of frequent congress visits. Thus, Berlin is always worth a visit.

The mixture of K&K charm and modern open-mindedness makes Vienna a favourite and eventful destination for us. That's why we have often visited Vienna.

South Tyrol (Alto aldige in Italian) - especially the Merano area - has become our preferred holiday destination in the past. Everything is right here,

Venice is an extraordinary city. Located in the Veneto region, it sits in a lagoon of the Adriatic Sea, spanning 118 islands connected by over 400 bridges and numerous canals.

In spring 2007, we visited the Gulf of Sorrento and Naples for 14 days. This southern Italian region is very diversified. Here our picture impressions.

So far, we have visited London twice: in 2009 for the Wimbledon tennis tournament, and in 2023 for the annual meeting of the International Skeletal Society.

Following our visit to Chicago in 2012, we took a 10-day tour around Lake Erie and the southern part of Lake Michigan. As in Chicago, Rainer's nephew Christian accompanied us.

We are often here because we like Regensburg. The historic city centre on the Danube is well preserved and is considered the largest of its kind in Germany.

We have travelled to Hamburg several times in recent years, most recently four times as part of the DGMSR autumn meetings.

We have travelled the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern coast with Greifswald, Stralsund, Ruegen and Usedom in 2012 and 2017 and were quite impressed by its landscape.

In October 2007, we spent a week in Prague, the 'Golden City', on the occasion of a conference. Prague has an unusually long list of cultural sights.

In August 2014, we stayed at the wonderful Albergo Aurora, located in the heart of Verona on Piazza dell'Erbe. The hotel offers views of the bustling piazza.

Rome, the 'Eternal City', was the hub of the Roman Empire for centuries and remains the centre of the Catholic world.

In 2004, we spent a few days in Genoa before taking the ferry to Palermo. We had a wonderful week in Sicily.

Egypt is a fascinating travel destination thanks to its contrasts. At its heart lie the elegant Nile and the vibrant megacity of Cairo.
