The performances of the Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt, originally from Tbilisi, are musical highlights. We highly recommend a visit to one of their concerts.
Originally founded as the Georgian State Chamber Orchestra in 1964 in Tbilisi, Georgia, the orchestra settled in Ingolstadt in 1990 after an appearance at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. The internationally renowned musicians were driven to emigrate by the political and economic situation in the then-extremely poor and shattered Georgia. With the support of the city of Ingolstadt and Audi AG, the ensemble soon became the region's cultural ambassador. The Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt is now at home on the world's stages, including the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Bad Kissingen Summer Festival, the European Weeks in Passau, the Danube Summer Concerts and the Mozartfest Würzburg.
The ensemble was artistically influenced by its long-standing director Liana Issakadze and by the conductors Yehudi Menuhin and Kurt Masur. Personalities such as David Oistrakh, Sviatoslav Richter, Daniil Shafran and Tabea Zimmermann have guested with the orchestra.
In 1999, a circle of friends of the Georgian Chamber Orchestra was founded to provide professional support for these highly talented artists. Important impulses were given to the orchestra by Markus Poschner (2000 to 2006), Ariel Zuckermann (2007 to 2011) and Ruben Gazarian (2015 to 2020). Since 2020, the Israeli-born and highly decorated Ariel Zuckermann has once again been the ensemble's principal conductor.
