Travel impressions

Lower Franconia

We are quite familiar with the Lower Franconian region, as Rainer lived in Würzburg for a long time, and we like to take short holidays in this charming area.

grapevineAlthough not extensively developed for tourism, the Lower Franconian places around Würzburg and along the River Main offer plenty of scenic, cultural, and culinary highlights.

The region is characterised by the Main River with its loop near Volkach, spacious vineyards, sleepy-looking villages that come to life at the legendary wine festivals, as well as the forest-covered recreational areas of the Spessart and Steigerwald. The best time to visit is May and June, when Franconian asparagus and last year's wine are on offer everywhere.

Some of the images are from cycle tours around 1980, most are more recent. However, little has changed in between.
